The Podiatry Round Table: Cases and Conversations

Master the Art of Clinical Conversation

From textbook theory to confident patient communication.

A free, interactive, fortnightly 45-minute online masterclass and mentoring group for podiatry students.

Who We Are

The Gap Between the Classroom and the Clinic

You’ve memorized the anatomy. You know the pathology. You’ve passed the exams. But then you stand in front of a real patient—or a tough clinical supervisor—and suddenly:

  • Translating complex biomechanics into simple, clear language feels clunky.

  • Connecting your assessment findings directly to your treatment plan under pressure isn't as straightforward as the textbook made it seem.

  • You wonder if you're actually conveying value in a way that gets patients to trust your care plan.

Bridging the gap between knowing podiatry and communicating podiatry is the single biggest hurdle for graduating students.

That’s where these sessions come in.

What are the Clinical Conversation Rounds?

Following wildly positive feedback, I’m opening up expressions of interest for a limited-space, interactive Zoom mentoring group designed purely to level up your clinical confidence.

This isn't a lecture where you sit on mute and take notes. It's a casual, low-stakes environment where we break down real-world case studies, deconstruct common conditions, and take turns practicing how to explain them in plain English.

"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough."

Here, we practice the art of explaining it simply—so you enter your graduate year miles ahead of the curve.

What We Cover in 45 Minutes

Every fortnight, we dive into practical, real-world podiatry:

  • Pathology to Plain English: Learn how to deconstruct common conditions so patients actually understand what's wrong.

  • Assessment to Action: See how history taking, gait analysis, and diagnostic testing directly dictate management plans—and how to communicate that rationale clearly. Those ‘dots’ and how to connect them.

  • Roleplay & Active Framing: Take turns testing out your "patient voice" in a zero-judgment space. Get instant feedback on tone, phrasing, and structure.

  • Open Case Files: I’ll bring cases from practice, and you’re welcome to bring your own. Bring your own tricky cases, confusing placements, or university questions to discuss with the group.

  • We'll explore questions like:

    • What clues pointed us towards this diagnosis?

    • What else should we be considering?

    • Which assessments actually matter?

    • What findings change our treatment plan?

    • How do we explain all of this to a patient in language they'll actually understand?

Why Join? (Besides it Being 100% Free)

  • Build Unshakable Clinical Confidence: Stop overthinking in front of patients or supervisors.

  • Communication Matters: Patients rarely remember every clinical detail. They remember whether they understood what was happening. They remember whether they felt listened to. They remember whether they trusted you.

  • Fast-Track Your Employability: Clinic owners aren't just looking for good grades—they want clinicians who can build rapport, retain patients, and explain treatment plans effectively from day one. Clinics hire graduates who can think, communicate, and handle patients confidently.

  • Learn from Real-World Experience: Get direct mentorship, guidance, and practical hacks from an experienced private practice clinician.

  • Zero Stress, Zero Judgement: A supportive environment designed specifically for learning, making mistakes, and growing alongside your peers. Well, maybe a little stress and judgement from Elan.

Who’s running it?

  • I’m Elan — podiatrist, educator, mentor, and someone who genuinely enjoys helping students bridge the gap between theory and real‑world practice. I’ve worked across most clinical settings: high-risk, aged care, NDIS, sports events, and the high‑pressure environments like the UWA student clinic. And survived.

  • I’ve been PodCasted, delivered blah-blah at conferences, was named Allied Health Podiatrist of the Year 2023 (and nominated again in 2026).

  • I’ve mentored dozens of students and new grads, and I know exactly where the confidence gaps usually are — and how to help you close them.

  • I’m not a UWA Podiatry graduate. I bring something else completely to the table (but just remember that you still have to pass your exams with the knowledge you have been taught).

You’ll leave each session with clearer clinical thinking, better communication skills, and a stronger sense of how podiatrists actually work.

Express Your Interest for the Next Cohort

Spaces are strictly limited to keep the group small, hands-on, and interactive.

I’m currently collecting expressions of interest for the upcoming sessions. If you want to be part of a relaxed, practical, genuinely helpful learning space, add your name to the list.
